Bell built the Race Star Flex DLX around one idea: energy management shouldn't be binary. The three-layer Flex Impact Liner handles slow-speed spills, mid-range crashes, and high-energy impacts each differently — instead of a single foam that compromises on all three. The shell is superlight 3K carbon fiber, shaped in the wind tunnel for both drag and stability at track speeds. The DLX means a Panovision ProTint photochromic shield comes in the box — auto-darkens in sunlight, clears in shade, one lens for all conditions. Snell M2015 and DOT certified. If you track your bike, this is the lid.
Flex is Bell's three-layer impact liner — three different densities of foam layered against the inside of the shell, engineered to handle low-speed, mid-speed, and high-energy impacts each differently. Instead of one foam that compromises across all three regimes, each layer does its job: low-speed rotational, mid-range oblique, high-energy linear. It is why the Race Star carries Snell M2015 on top of DOT FMVSS 218.
Yes. The Panovision ProTint shield is photochromic — it darkens in UV and clears in lower light. On a cloud-to-sun commute it transitions in about 30 seconds, so you get sunglass-grade tint when you need it and a clear lens in a tunnel or at dusk. The included Panovision ProTint is the only shield you realistically need for street and track use.
Bell's intermediate oval, slightly longer front-to-back than the Shoei RF-1400. If you sit between round and intermediate oval, you will likely find the Race Star comfortable. Cheek pads come in multiple thicknesses available from Bell, so a professional fitting lets you dial in the perfect snugness without pressure points.
Yes — Snell M2015 and DOT FMVSS 218 certified, which covers most track day organizations in the US. The 3K carbon shell keeps weight low (about 1,300g in a medium) which reduces neck fatigue on long track sessions.
Bell's standard limited warranty covers manufacturing defects for five years. Crash replacement is offered at a discounted price for two years from purchase — if you drop the helmet in an actual crash, contact Bell with a description and they will quote you a replacement shell or full helmet at a fraction of retail.
